Polar structures, such as corneodesmosomes, interconnect corneocytes determining stratum corneum cohesion. Intercorneocytic lipids are primarily generated from exocytosis of lamellar bodies during the keratinocytes terminal differentiation and secondarily generated by sebaceous output.
