As glaucoma is often asymptomatic over a long period of time, it is often only diagnosed at a stage when irreversible visual field defects are already present. The aim of current treatment options is to prevent further damage to the optic nerve and slow down the loss of vision by lowering the intraocular pressure (IOP). If eye drops are not sufficient, oral medication is used as a supplement or alternative. Other treatment modalities include laser therapy or incision surgery. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n
