With the guideline published on December 1, 2025, the World Health Organization has, for the first time, issued a globally applicable recommendation on the pharmacological management of obesity in adults. It was released simultaneously with an accompanying article in the Journal of the American Medical Association<\/em>. This is more than just a technical update: The WHO thereby explicitly recognizes obesity as a chronic, recurrent disease that\u2014similar to hypertension or diabetes\u2014requires long-term, structured treatment. For general practice, diabetes care, and cardiology practices, the question is therefore less whether GLP-1-based therapies have a place, and more about for whom, under what circumstances, and with what responsibilities they should be used. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n
