Chronic pruritus is associated with considerable suffering and can occur both as part of classic dermatoses and as a leading symptom of many internal diseases. In chronic prurigo, long-lasting itching is associated with extensive pruritic lesions, which is particularly distressing for those affected. Effective therapies are needed. Research is currently being conducted not only on interleukins and their receptors, but also on other signal transmission mechanisms involved.
