Traditionally, the treatment of type 2 diabetes has focused on blood glucose control and the prevention of complications. In the future, these therapeutic approaches could be complemented by another, which, according to current studies, could restore beta cell function and possibly lead to remission by targeting the reduction of glucotoxicity, lipotoxicity and insulin resistance.
