Herbal medicines open up new perspectives in the concomitant and alternative treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In view of the limited efficacy and side effects of many standard drugs, phytopharmaceuticals with their multimodal mechanisms of action and good safety profile are a valuable addition.
