Impaired glucagon-mediated counterregulation is a key factor in severe hypoglycemia in type 1 diabetes (T1D). Although this is well documented in adults, the onset and progression in children and adolescents remain inadequately characterized, as long-term data on pediatric T1D are limited. Metrics derived from CGM have now been identified as non-invasive surrogate markers for impaired counterregulation, which could be used for early risk stratification of hypoglycemia in children with T1D.
