A prospective, multicenter case-control study published in PLoS Medicine in 2025 described the frequency and clinical characteristics of patients with a protracted post-Covid course and searched for risk factors for persistence vs. improvement of symptoms. The analyses showed that in two thirds of the patients who had a post-Covid syndrome 6-12 months after acute SARS-CoV-2 infection, symptoms persisted in the following months.
