The risk of malnutrition is greatly increased in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC). People with CD are even more severely affected, as the disease can also affect the small intestine, whereas UC is limited to the large intestine. A specific diet is therefore essential for those affected. Evidence- and expert-based recommendations have now been developed in a guideline update.
