Diabetes mellitus (DM) increases the risk of left ventricular dysfunction (LVD), which can lead to heart failure if undetected. Echocardiography enables real-time assessment of left ventricular function and early detection of myocardial dysfunction. An international research group has investigated the role of echocardiography in the detection of subclinical and manifest LVD and the associated risk factors in diabetic patients.
