Type 1 diabetes is the most common metabolic disorder among children and adolescents. The clinical manifestation of type 1 diabetes is preceded by presymptomatic islet cell autoimmunity, which can be diagnosed by detecting islet cell autoantibodies. The goal of a new antibody therapy is to delay the transition to the insulin-dependent stage by years or, in the best-case scenario, to prevent it altogether.
