UV protection and skin cancer screening – Update 2025

The number of new cases of skin cancer has risen sharply in recent years. Melanomas are less common than basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, but account for around 70% of all deaths caused by skin cancer. In addition to primary prevention using the three pillars of UV protection (avoiding high UV exposure; physical protection; sunscreen), secondary prevention in the form of skin cancer screening is another important and effective measure. In addition to traditional dermatoscopic examinations, AI-supported technologies are increasingly being used.
