On August 28, 2026, the European Society of Cardiology published its first independent guideline on cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease, developed in collaboration with the European Renal Association and presented the following day at the congress in Munich. Its central recommendation can be summarized in one sentence: Every patient with cardiovascular disease should be screened for chronic kidney disease, specifically by assessing estimated glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria.
