Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases are characterized by an intermittent course. In Crohn’s disease, the main sites of manifestation are the terminal ileum and the colon, while ulcerative colitis exclusively affects the large intestine. Characteristic changes can be detected using sonography, computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
