Hepatitis B is the most common form of viral hepatitis worldwide—dreaded complications include liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Treatment with Bepirovirsen, an antisense oligonucleotide that targets mRNAs of the hepatitis B virus (HBV), has the potential to lead to a functional cure in chronic hepatitis B —according to a conclusion from the international B-Well study program, which examined adults with non-cirrhotic chronic HBV infection.
