Disorders of the gut-brain interaction (DGBI) are characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms resulting from a combination of various factors—including motility disorders, visceral hypersensitivity, and dysbiosis. For many years, research into and clinical management of GBI have been based on diagnostic criteria published by the Rome Foundation. The Rome V criteria, published in 2026, provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence-based knowledge, with a focus on changes from the previous version (Rome IV).
