Acute heart failure is a life-threatening condition. According to current guideline recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), drug therapy after acute decompensation should be implemented while the patient is still in hospital and intensified in prompt regular outpatient check-ups. As incomplete recompensation is associated with a poorer prognosis, ways are being sought to enhance the effect of diuretic therapy in order to support and accelerate decongestion.
