This dermatosis, which is based on the destruction of melanocytes, can occur at any age – however, it usually affects 10-30 year olds and in over a third of cases vitiligo first manifests itself at the age of <12 years. Adolescents in particular often experience considerable distress. Nowadays, the motto is to treat at an early stage – various treatment modalities are available, but patience is usually required until visible results are achieved.
