In patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), chronic back pain typically manifests itself for the first time before the age of 45. Timely referral to rheumatology specialists and close monitoring of symptoms in patients already diagnosed with axSpA help to ensure that patients achieve adequate disease control. Although NSAIDs are still considered first-line therapy, there are now several highly effective treatment alternatives for patients who do not respond adequately.
