As part of the 2024 funding round of project funding for prevention in healthcare (PGV), projects are being sought on the specific topic of “Improving the treatment of dementia along the healthcare pathway”. The Call for Proposals runs until January 19, 2024.

Based on the action plan for the National Strategy for the Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD Strategy) 2021-2024, the basic document on prevention in healthcare (PGV) and the PGV 2021-2024 project funding concept, the Swiss Health Promotion Foundation supports projects to strengthen prevention in healthcare. Health Promotion Switzerland supports projects in the areas of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), addiction and mental illness. The aim of all the projects is to establish preventive practices along the health pathways in order to maintain the quality of life and autonomy of people who are ill or at increased risk of illness, to reduce their need for treatment and, as a result, to curb healthcare costs.

The focus of the second implementation phase (2021-2024) of the PGV project funding is on the development priorities of quality, preparation for establishment and communication. In the 2024 funding round, only projects by stakeholders based on calls for proposals on specific topics (funding area III) will be supported. These provide for the implementation of preventive practices of the topic-specific call for proposals “Improving the treatment of dementia along the health pathway”. All project applications are submitted on the online platform Promotion Digitale. The number of projects that can be funded on the basis of this Call for Proposals is very limited and the requirements for project submissions are high. Project evaluation and selection follows a standardized process, and the projects with the highest quality are ultimately selected and supported. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) is involved in the tendering and selection of projects.

The projects should pursue the following main objective

Increased (early) detection of cognitive disorders, slowing their development into dementia by maintaining independence; improving the quality of life of people with dementia or at risk of dementia and their family caregivers by introducing a specific health pathway.

Funding will be provided for around two high-quality projects that develop the systematic integration of preventive practices into the healthcare system within the identified areas with a high need for action. The funding amount per contract is CHF 1-1.5 million over a term of four years.
