Secondary prevention after an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is crucial for improving quality of life and reducing morbidity and mortality rates. Elevated blood lipid levels such as LDL cholesterol and lipoprotein(a) are important risk factors. In addition to the classic strategy of lowering LDL cholesterol with statins, ezetimibe, bempedoic acid, PCSK-9-Ak and si-RNA, there is now a further focus on innovative strategies for specifically lowering lipoprotein(a). Although the relevant active substances are still in development, the results so far are encouraging.
