Interdisciplinary cooperation is an important prerequisite for the best possible care of asthma patients. Asthma that can be detected using spirometric testing can be diagnosed not only by pulmonologists, but also by GPs. However, patients with typical asthma symptoms but normal lung function should be referred to a pulmonologist to check for the presence of bronchial hyperreactivity and to determine the expression of type 2 biomarkers.
