European guidelines mention permethrin, benzyl benzoate and crotamiton as topical antiscabiosa. There have been repeated reports of treatment failure with permethrin in recent years, although the causes are controversial. In order to directly compare permethrin 5% with benzyl benzoate 25%, an Austrian research team conducted a double-blind randomized study.
