In an in-vitro study published in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology in 2025, the effects of the active ingredient Menthacarin® on the composition of the human intestinal flora and the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) were investigated. It was found that Menthacarin® significantly altered the composition of the microbiota at both phylum and genus level. These effects may contribute to the clinical benefits that may result from the use of Menthacarin® in functional gastrointestinal disorders.
