Heart failure and diabetes mellitus are two of the greatest global health burdens and their prevalence is steadily increasing. At the same time, heart failure is becoming one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality in western industrialized nations. Viewing heart failure and diabetes as closely linked entities raises the question of how early intervention can prevent patients’ prognosis from deteriorating.
