Demographic change is also influencing the prevalence and therefore the relevance of postoperative complications. Surgical wound complications in particular not only have a negative impact on individual morbidity, mortality and quality of life, but also result in higher care requirements and rising healthcare costs. The focus is on risk factors, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of surgical wound complications.
