The symptoms of reflux disease are varied and can manifest themselves in different forms. To make it easier for primary care physicians to classify their patients correctly and treat them accordingly in the best possible way, five gastroenterologists have developed an overview of the seven basic reflux phenotypes.

The reflux phenotypes are classified as follows:
- Mild reflux
- Severe reflux
- Symptomatic hiatal hernia
- Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR).
- Reflux that is not reflux
- Painful and functional patients
- Reflux during pregnancy
The following figures address the key issues related to each of these reflux phenotypes. The patient interview, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, as well as the timing for referral to the gastroenterologist will be addressed. In addition, you will find continuously updated cases for all reflux phenotypes here.
