The broad spectrum of therapeutic effects of SGLT-2 (sodium-glucose cotransporter-2) inhibitors includes, among other things, cardiorenal protection in patients with non-diabetic chronic kidney disease (CKD), as impressively demonstrated by large RCTs in adults (e.g., DAPA-CKD, EMPA-KIDNEY) have impressively demonstrated. Meanwhile, a Phase III study called DOUBLE PROTECT Alport (NCT05944016) has been launched to investigate the efficacy and safety of SGLT2 inhibitors as an add-on to standard therapy in patients aged 10–40 with genetic CKD (Alport syndrome).
