Over 80% of antibiotic prescriptions in human medicine relate to outpatient care. In order to counteract the increasing spread of antibiotic resistance – one of the greatest challenges of modern medicine according to the World Health Organization (WHO) – it is important to question whether antibiotic administration is really necessary and, if so, which active ingredient and for how long.
