Due to the biophysical properties of their ingredients, emollients restore skin moisture and the skin’s barrier function. For this reason, appropriate topical preparations are used, among other things, to treat xerosis cutis. Humectants attract water through their hygroscopic properties and bind it in the stratum corneum. Evidence from clinical studies confirms that formulations containing urea and glycerin can provide long-term improvement in age-related xerosis.
