Patients with multiple disabilities are affected by pain of various kinds due to a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses. People who are unable to adequately articulate their complaints pose a particular challenge when it comes to diagnosis. This article examines the possibilities of recognizing and classifying pain and its causes even without self-disclosure by the patient.
