Innovative adjunctive therapies promote renal remission

Early diagnosis and treatment of lupus nephritis can be crucial for preserving kidney function. Among the adjunctive immunomodulatory therapies, two B-cell-targeted antibodies with different mechanisms of action—belimumab and obinutuzumab—are now available. Among calcineurin inhibitors, voclosporin is currently the only agent approved by the EMA and Swissmedic for this indication, but tacrolimus is considered a potential alternative.
