Epidemiologic analyses and longitudinal studies show that the majority of infants affected by AD are symptom-free as adults, but in some, AD persists into adulthood. This is associated with an increased risk of developing IgE-mediated atopic comorbidities. Corresponding correlations have been deciphered in cohort studies. The knowledge gained from this can be helpful in counseling AD sufferers and their families.
