In a retrospective cohort study in England, routinely collected primary care data was used to investigate whether the risk of asthma exacerbations has a statistical association with mental illness. The results showed that the incidence rate of exacerbations was significantly higher among asthmatics with depression or anxiety disorders compared to those with no mental comorbidities.
