Diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) is one of the most serious and functionally significant complications of diabetes, with a high number of functionally relevant amputations. DFS is not to be understood as an isolated chronic wound, but as a local manifestation of a systemic metabolic disease with neurovascular and immunological dysregulation and destruction.
