There is a need for effective and well-tolerated treatments that can be used in the early stages of dementia. Overall, the evidence suggests that taking a standardized, proprietary ginkgo extract may be an effective intervention for the primary and secondary prevention of cognitive impairment and mild to moderate dementia. To confirm the efficacy in patients with mild dementia, Riepe et al. conducted a meta-analysis.
