While bronchiectasis has long been regarded primarily as a consequence of chronic infections, neutrophilic inflammation is increasingly coming into focus as a key driver of progression and exacerbations. This is giving rise to new therapeutic perspectives. Initial clinical experience with DPP1 inhibitors, which specifically intervene in the neutrophilic inflammation cascade, opens up possibilities for the future.
