Chronic hypoparathyroidism is one of the few endocrine disorders for which no causal hormone replacement therapy has been available for decades. Treatment focused not on the underlying hormone deficiency, but on its biochemical consequence—hypocalcemia. With Swissmedic’s approval of palopegteriparatide on December 9, 2025, a parathyroid hormone (PTH) replacement therapy is now available in Switzerland for the first time for adult patients. Beyond stabilizing calcium levels, the recently published 2-year data from the PaTHway study highlight a parameter that is particularly significant for long-term prognosis: kidney function.
