A new study on spider phobia shows that propranolol only works in the long term if those affected re-encounter the fear-inducing stimulus early on. This brings reconsolidation into sharper focus as a therapeutic alternative. In the double-blind study, 69 participants received propranolol or placebo after a brief reactivation.
