Approximately 30–40% of patients with type 2 diabetes develop chronic kidney disease (CKD) over time. In “landmark” studies such as CREDENCE, DAPA-CKD, EMPA-KIDNEY, and several others, SGLT-2 (sodium-glucose-linked transporter 2) inhibitorsdemonstrated verifiable benefits in renal endpoints, and the FLOW study has since also demonstrated significant nephroprotective effects of a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1)-RAhas also been shown to have significant nephroprotective effects in people with type 2 diabetes.
