The lifetime prevalence of urticaria is almost 20%. Second-generation antihistamines are also recommended as first-line therapy for pediatric patients. However, pediatric patients with itchy wheals are not always suffering from a (classic) form of urticaria, as reports from the children’s hospital and the specialist literature clearly show.
