Frailty has established itself as a central concept in modern pulmonology in recent years. While the syndrome was originally described primarily as a geriatric phenomenon, more recent data shows that vulnerability and physiological dysregulation also occur to a considerable extent in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – at all ages.
