In primary care , disorders of the gut-brain axis—also known as functional gastrointestinal disorders—are very common. Herbal remedies, such as a proprietary combination of peppermint oil (Mentha × piperita L.) and caraway oil (Carum carvi L.), are frequently used, and there is an increasingly broad evidence base supporting their use.
