Previous studies have shown that patients with asthma have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and that people with type 2 diabetes have an increased risk of developing asthma. It is known that the underlying triggers for asthma, independent of type 2 diabetes, depend on several risk factors and that the phenotypic expression is influenced by genetic and environmental causes.
