A funnel chest is a deformity of the ribcage that is caused by a growth disorder of the bone and cartilage tissue. Physical symptoms do not always occur, but the sunken chest can put pressure on the heart and lungs. A funnel chest can be corrected by surgery, although there are different surgical methods. Alternatively, physiotherapeutic treatment can be helpful for mild deformities.
