Lifestyle-related measures are the basic framework in the treatment of overweight and obesity. However, in order to achieve and maintain the target weight, accompanying pharmacological or surgical measures are usually required. Pharmacotherapy is now a central component of comprehensive obesity management, with the focus on incretin-based therapies. These lead to effective weight reduction and current studies also show favorable effects on various concomitant diseases that occur more frequently in obese patients.
