A neurological manifestation occurs in 3-15% of Lyme borreliosis infections and can manifest itself, for example, as polyradiculitis, meningitis or, in rare cases, encephalomyelitis. If neuroborreliosis is suspected, it is recommended that serum and cerebrospinal fluid tests are carried out, as the detection of borrelia-specific intrathecal antibody synthesis in conjunction with inflammatory changes in the cerebrospinal fluid is conclusive. Neuroborreliosis can be treated with antibiotics.
