Traditionally, a period of six to nine weeks is planned for an Everest expedition. This established practice was called into question in 2025 when five British mountaineers climbed Everest in just seven days. According to the organizer, prior xenon inhalation played a decisive role in this. However, there is no evidence for this method, as there are other forms of pre-acclimatization.
