Malnutrition and sarcopenia are two common but often underestimated complications in patients with chronic lung diseases such as COPD, pulmonary fibrosis or other respiratory diseases. Both conditions have a profound impact on the quality of life and survival of those affected. The high incidence of malnutrition in lung diseases is a consequence of the increased energy requirements due, among other things, to the increased activity of the respiratory muscles.
