EFS and pCR benefit with neoadjuvant nivolumab plus chemotherapy in NSCLC with PD-L1 expression ≥ 1%

Based on the results of CheckMate 816, nivolumab (Opdivo®) in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy (CT) has received Swissmedic approval for the neoadjuvant treatment of resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with PD-L1 expression ≥ 1% in adults. Compared with neoadjuvant CT alone, nivolumab (NIVO) plus CT was associated with an event-free survival (EFS) and pathologic complete response (pCR) benefit in patients undergoing resection. The addition of NIVO to CT did not increase the incidence of adverse events or impede the feasibility of surgery.
